Why WordPress Beats WIX for SEO

When it comes to search engine optimization (SEO), not all website platforms are created equal. And that’s certainly true when comparing WordPress to WIX. As a professional web designer, WordPress gives us the flexibility, control and performance that serious SEO requires — and that’s where WIX falls short as we explain in more detail here.

Full SEO Control

When building our websites in WordPress, we have complete control of every element that affects SEO and page ranking scores — from meta titles and schema markup, to image optimization and page/speed optimisation. WIX has limited access to advanced SEO features and relies heavily on presets.

Better Site Speed & Performance

WordPress offers more lightweight themes, faster load times, and optimized hosting — all critical for Core Web Vitals. When you combine that with our advanced coding skills, we’re able to build websites that are truly optimised for delivering faster load times which is an absolutely critical factor for achieving strong page ranking scores. WIX sites can be bloated with unnecessary code, which slows performance and ultimately hurts page ranking scores.

Clean Code & Customization

As an open source platform, WordPress gives us the freedom to access and build clean, crawlable code with advanced SEO tactics. WIX’s closed system has limited access to the backend code and restricts the deployment of advanced SEO practises.

Scalability & Ownership

When building our websites in WordPress, it allows us to scale and grow the sites in conjunction with the growth of your business. And crucially, you own your website, your data and your domain. With WIX, your website is confined to their eco-system and limitations.

The Proof of The Pudding is in the Eating

Here is an example of a recent project we completed for R Taylor Roofing. Based in Hoddesdon, Herts, the company originally had a WIX website, which unfortunately for the reasons as outlined above, was simply no where to be found on Google. When the owner Ryan Taylor approached us to remedy the situation, we set about designing and building a fresh new WordPress website whilst implementing all the best practices for SEO. You can read more about that here.

The results of good SEO

The new website was submitted to Google recently and within only a short period of time, we’ve already seen positive results and the new website is already getting listed on page 1 of Google for a number of local keyword searches. We are continuing to work with R Taylor Roofing to build upon those early results and further widen the net.

The Bottom Line

So if your current website is built with WIX and you are struggling to get seen on Google, then it may be time to ditch the WIX and move over to WordPress.
